First Grade Gallery
In 1st grade students create art based on imagination, personal interpretations of nature, familiar places, and activities with family or friends. Perceptual skills and a vocabulary for art are developed through role-playing, physical movement, visual searches and game like activities. They learn that observations of the environment have inspired adult artists and can be sources of inspiration for their own art. The process of looking at art is presented as an enjoyable and integral part of learning about art. They learn about famous artists and the kinds of art they create(d).
